Great story to bring back memories of my youth. I pheasant hunted with my uncle and some friends growing up in that region. I belonged to Knights Landing club for a while an then Richmond hunting club for yrs. Hunted hastings a couple of times as a guest and then joined Suisun marsh before I ran out of walking legs. When My uncle stopped hunting I bought his Fox Mod B 12 ga. The gun was Cyl bore in both barrels and worked great with lite loads over my pointer. But it was heavy to pack on long walks. I miss being able to chase those birds but have lots of memories and pictures.
Upland bird hunting - primarily pheasants for me - is my “first love”. Pheasant hunting in my 70s now and hoping to make it into my 80s…🙂
Great article. Thanks!

Thanks for the write up!
At one time, when I was young, pheasants were quite common in WNY. We hunted them up to Deer Season.
Then the population crashed hard. Now, the sight of a cockbird is quite rare and a reason to check your memory…
Yes, I think a lot of our wild pheasant populations have dwindled. Sad situation.
I've got a beautiful old Remington 1100 LW in 20g that's claimed a few roosters at the Taber Pheasant Festival. :-)
