25-06 a New Load...
My Favorite Open-Country Rifle gets a New Handload
Years ago, twenty or so, I’d tried the then new 100 grain Barnes TSX for deer. I shot a few. They died, but I was uneasy about the expansion. At near muzzle velocity, 3300+ fps, they opened well for sure. Past that, I wasn’t so sure. Eventually Barnes improved the TSX by coming up with the TTSX. This wasn’t just the simple addition of a synthetic pointed cap, there was also a greatly increased hollow point under the tip…
At Ultimate Reloader we tried the 130 grain TTSX from several 30-06 rifles. Velocity was very high! Accuracy was great! Expansion and weight retention in the gel blocks was quite good.
Taking that on I thought that I ought to try this new and improved Barnes bullet from my 25-06… The results were impressive!
I used Ramshot Grand, a near max load, to see an impressive 3350 fps and a 3 shot 200 yard group of 1.125” - That ought to work.
I’m taking this load hunting soon. That should be the real proof of how it does. So far, I’m impressed.
